Dear friends,
I hope, you took it as a good sign that I answer so late and so shortly to your emails and that this blog lay somewhat abandoned for some time. Actually, since beginning of November 2007 I have been mostly in retreat, just as planned. I have hardly used my phone and have been keeping my meditation cushion warmer than usual. It does me a lot of good, and I will definitely continue with this contemplative life style as much as possible, although I know that it is difficult for some that I am not so available anymore.

Today I took two hours to bring my blog up-to-date. But now will come again a period of little involvement with it. I keep only two priorities for the blog: to put the new dharma texts that we are finishing online and to keep my calendar going. Both aspects are very valuable tools. I do not really have the statistics, but there must have been around 25.000 downloads of dharma texts from this blog since its origin. This is marvelous! I am so happy that people all over the world can make use of this work. I have not yet learned to put audio teachings online myself, but this will also be coming one day.

So, actually, I have no news, everything is fine, I am very happy, and feel very much connected with the dharma and my teachers. The old retreatants will come out on May 19th, and the new retreatants are preparing for the foundation retreat that begins on May 25. There are about 30 men and 30 women ready to go on this adventure, and I am happy to accompany them (only the men), together with Lama Tendzin. Our monastic sangha has shrunk last year and is now redefining the frame of our communal life. This is a very healthy process. The lay sangha around the monastery is in a similar process, less structured but with pretty much the same questions. To see clearer, many practitioners are doing small retreats this winter.

I just added to our list of available dharma texts the two transcripts of last year's German and French teaching on the fifth chapter of "The Union of Mahamudra and Dzogchen" by Karma Chakme. Have a look in the section "General teachings" under the title: "Martri teaching song 5". Martri is the name of the commentary in Tibetan. The teaching is actually about how to practice the development and the completion stage in meditation, using the practice of Avalokiteshvara as an example.

This is a beautiful statue that I found in Burma two years ago... isn't it marvelous?

Dear friends,
the film "Someone beside you" about ways of living, accompanying and healing psychosis is now already running for a full month in Germany. I really suggest you should see it - not simply because it is made by a friend of mine, Edgar Hagen, about the work of another friend of mine, the psychiatrist Edward Podvoll - no, it is really a good film, very sensitive, non-manipulative, conveying a real sense of what psychosis can be and of how one can get out of it. I truly hope the film will also reach the US; it all depends on whether it becomes a success in Germany.
